'Endgame Encore' trailer: Why Marvel is re-releasing the film before 'Avengers: Doomsday'

Marvel is bringing back one of the biggest films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a new theatrical version of 'Avengers: Endgame'. Titled 'Endgame Encore', the re-release will include additional material designed to connect the events of the Infinity Saga with the upcoming 'Avengers: Doomsday'.

'Endgame Encore' trailer released

Marvel unveiled the first trailer for 'Endgame Encore' on August 25, alongside the opening of ticket sales. The 1-minute-36-second trailer revisits some of the film's most memorable moments, including the Avengers arriving through the portals, Steve Rogers wielding Mjolnir and Tony Stark's emotional final scene.

The new presentation, called Infinity Vision, will run for 185 minutes, or 3 hours and 5 minutes. The original theatrical cut ran for 181 minutes.

What is new in the re-release?

Marvel has added three major elements to the new version: a newly-created introduction, additional footage and a post-credits sequence connected to 'Avengers: Doomsday'.

Co-director Joe Russo previously described the re-release as a “critical companion story” to the upcoming film.

“It’s critically important to re-release the movie, and, in fact, we’ll be re-releasing the film with footage that is set in the Doomsday story that we have added to Avengers: Endgame,” he said.

How does it connect to 'Doomsday'?

Marvel's official synopsis describes 'Avengers: Doomsday' as a story in which “beloved heroes from three distinct universes will be set on a deadly collision course and face an existential threat unlike anything they've ever encountered.”

The film will bring together characters from the Avengers, Thunderbolts, X-Men and Fantastic Four as they face Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr.

The cast includes returning MCU characters such as Thor, Captain America, Ant-Man, Loki, Bucky Barnes, Black Panther and Shang-Chi. The Fantastic Four and original Fox X-Men casts will also feature prominently.

What to watch before 'Doomsday'?

Disney+ has released an official viewing guide featuring films and series including 'X-Men', 'The Avengers', 'Avengers: Infinity War', 'Avengers: Endgame', both seasons of 'Loki', 'Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings', 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' and 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever'.

'Avengers: Endgame Encore' will arrive in theatres on September 25, 2026, followed by 'Avengers: Doomsday' on December 18, 2026.
