Bulletproof glass, tighter guards: How Bollywood stars are responding to security threats
The firing incident involving actor Tiger Shroff has prompted several Bollywood celebrities to reassess their personal security arrangements. With fresh threats being reported, including one allegedly received by Tusshar Kapoor, actors and their security teams are taking additional precautions.
Police are currently investigating whether the threat to Tusshar Kapoor is genuine or a hoax. Meanwhile, security professionals have confirmed an increase in demand for protection among celebrities following the shooting incident.
Actor Ronit Roy, who also runs a private security company, told NDTV that celebrities were looking to strengthen their security cover as a precaution.
"Yes there been a demand to increase security cover among celebs. It's all preventive in nature. Everyone wants to be careful and feel protected", he said.
Several security personnel associated with celebrity protection also told NDTV, requesting anonymity, that arrangements for their clients had been strengthened after the firing incident.
Film industry on alert after Tiger Shroff shooting
The incident has also raised concerns across the wider film fraternity. B N Tiwari, president of the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), said actors, directors and producers were all becoming more cautious.
"Everyone is feeling scared. The incident that happened suddenly was beyond what anyone could have imagined. Firing in broad daylight, in front of so many people and right outside a police station, has naturally created fear. Artists may not openly show it, but everyone is alert. The impact of this fear is being felt by everyone, whether it is a big director, producer or actor. Everyone is afraid because life is precious to everyone," Tiwari told NDTV.
He added that members of the industry had alerted their personal security teams and were taking steps to avoid unnecessary risks.
"Yes, everyone has put their personal security on alert. Taking whatever precautions we can to keep ourselves safe is a sensible thing to do. This should not be called fear; it should be called being sensible. People should also be careful about going to open spaces unnecessarily and meeting people without reason."
Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan tighten security
The change in security arrangements has also been noticeable during public appearances.
Amitabh Bachchan's customary Sunday meeting with fans outside his Juhu residence saw an additional safety measure this time. The veteran actor greeted visitors from behind a bulletproof glass enclosure, while son Abhishek Bachchan remained nearby.
Shah Rukh Khan's 61st birthday celebrations at Mannat on November 2 also witnessed heightened security. Police personnel were deployed in large numbers, and access to the lane outside his residence was restricted.
When Shah Rukh eventually appeared with his family to greet fans, he maintained a distance from the crowd and waved from his terrace instead of approaching the boundary wall as he has done on previous occasions.
Reports that the shooters involved in the Tiger Shroff incident had allegedly conducted reconnaissance of the residences of Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar have added to the concerns.
Meanwhile, the All India Senior Workers Association has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking foolproof security for Bollywood celebrities.
