Awarapan 2 records strong I-Day jump; overtakes lifetime collections of Jannat, Raaz 2
Emraan Hashmi's Awarapan 2 continued its impressive run at the box office on Saturday, taking its two-day domestic collection past Rs 44 crore and surpassing the lifetime earnings of several of the actor's earlier hits.
The Nitin Kakkar directorial opened with Rs 22 crore net in India on Friday, registering the biggest opening of Hashmi's career as a lead actor and emerging as one of the stronger Hindi film debuts of 2026.
The film maintained its momentum on its second day, aided by the Independence Day holiday. According to early estimates cited by Hindustan Times, it had collected around Rs 22.42 crore by 8 pm on Saturday, taking its two-day India net total to approximately Rs 44.42 crore. The final Day 2 figure was expected to rise further after evening and night shows.
Holiday boost
Awarapan 2 registered around 31 per cent occupancy during Saturday morning shows, which climbed to about 70 per cent in the afternoon, indicating a significant increase in footfalls as the day progressed.
The film was also reportedly selling more than 20,000 tickets per hour on BookMyShow during parts of Friday and Saturday.
The strong start has given Hashmi one of the biggest box-office successes of his career within just two days.
The sequel surpassed the lifetime domestic net collection of the original Awarapan on its opening day itself. The 2007 film, which subsequently acquired cult status, had collected around Rs 7.75 crore during its theatrical run.
By Saturday, Awarapan 2 had also overtaken the lifetime collections of several other Hashmi films, including Haq, Raaz 2, Ek Thi Daayan and Jannat. Jannat, one of the actor's best-known commercial successes, had earned around Rs 30 crore net.
Hashmi returns as Shivam
Directed by Nitin Kakkar and produced by Vishesh Bhatt, Awarapan 2 sees Hashmi reprise his role as Shivam Pandit nearly two decades after the original film.
The sequel also stars Disha Patani, Shabana Azmi and Suvinder Vicky. It was released in theatres on August 14, taking advantage of the extended Independence Day weekend.
The film has received mixed-to-positive reviews, with Hashmi's performance and the nostalgic connection with the 2007 original drawing particular attention.
Its opening-day performance had already established Awarapan 2 as Hashmi's biggest opener, while the sharp rise in collections on Saturday has positioned it for a sizeable opening weekend.
