Lakshmanan Meyyappan entered Guinness World Records after completing his professional accounting qualification at 16 years and 141 days; now 21, he works in investment research in Dubai

Indian finance professional Lakshmanan Meyyappan has earned a place in the Guinness World Records for becoming the world’s youngest male Chartered Accountant, achieving the distinction when he was just 16 years and 141 days old. Meyyappan, now 21 and based in Dubai, began his professional accounting journey shortly after completing his Class 10 examinations. He started pursuing the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) qualification at the age of 15 during the Covid-19 period and completed the programme in about a year. His achievement has since been formally recognised by Guinness World Records, putting him among a rare group of professionals to complete a demanding financial qualification while still in their teens.

Started at 15

Meyyappan’s accelerated journey into finance began during the pandemic, when restrictions provided him with additional time to concentrate on his studies. Rather than following the conventional route of completing higher secondary education and university before beginning a professional qualification, he started preparing for ACCA soon after his Class 10 board examinations.

At 15, he began working through the professional accounting programme and completed the requirements at an exceptionally young age. According to Guinness World Records, Meyyappan achieved the record in Dubai at 16 years and 141 days. The achievement was driven primarily by his interest in finance rather than an attempt to race through professional qualifications.

Finance journey continues

Meyyappan did not stop with his accounting qualification. He subsequently turned his attention towards investment and financial markets and continued accumulating professional credentials. He went on to complete all levels of the Chartered Financial Analyst programme by the age of 18 and later earned the CFA charter. He is currently pursuing an MSc in Finance while simultaneously building his professional career in Dubai.

Meyyappan works as a senior research analyst with UAE-based investment firm Century Financial, where his responsibilities include investment research, financial-market analysis and strategic decision-making. His progression from completing Class 10 to becoming a professional accountant, CFA charterholder and investment researcher within a relatively short period has attracted considerable attention.

Learning over records

Despite entering the record books, Meyyappan has maintained that speed was never the primary objective behind his academic journey. He has emphasised the importance of understanding how finance functions in the real world and developing knowledge that remains useful beyond examinations and professional certifications.

His approach, he has indicated, has been centred on curiosity and practical understanding rather than simply accumulating qualifications as quickly as possible. The record also highlights how access to professional learning has changed, allowing young students to begin specialised programmes considerably earlier than traditional academic pathways once permitted.

Beyond finance

Meyyappan’s interests are not restricted to financial markets and professional qualifications. Away from his work and studies, he has developed an interest in horology and spends time designing and building watches. His unusual career trajectory has therefore combined academic acceleration with professional experience and personal interests at an age when many students are only beginning their undergraduate education.

The Guinness recognition has now brought renewed attention to an achievement he accomplished several years ago. At 21, Meyyappan continues to work in Dubai while pursuing further studies in finance, turning an extraordinary teenage milestone into the foundation for a broader career in investment and financial research.
