L&T bags orders for Dhaka Metro Line 1 project in Bangladesh

Engineering major secured design-and-build contracts for two key systems packages under the metro rail project

Engineering and construction major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) on Tuesday announced that it has secured design-and-build orders for Bangladesh's Dhaka Metro Line 1 project.

The company said its transportation infrastructure business vertical had won contracts for two key systems packages of the project, strengthening its involvement in Bangladesh's metro rail infrastructure development.

Second major Dhaka metro assignment

L&T had earlier secured and completed the integrated railway systems package for Dhaka Metro Line 6, Bangladesh's first metro rail corridor, which is currently in commercial operation.

The latest orders mark another assignment for the company in Dhaka's expanding metro rail network, following its previous work on Line 6.

JICA-funded project to span 31 km

Dhaka Metro Line 1 is being funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and is planned as a modern mass transit system covering approximately 31 km.

The project forms part of efforts to expand urban rail connectivity in Bangladesh's capital through additional metro infrastructure.

L&T did not disclose the financial value of the two orders in the information provided.
