FSSAI action: 6 companies withdraw misleading claims, revise labels
Food regulator FSSAI on Sunday said six companies have taken corrective actions like withdrawal of misleading labels and trademarks, following notices issued to them for violations of law.
In a social media post, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) said six Food Business Operators (FBOs) had taken prompt corrective action following notices from the regulator.
"Measures range from withdrawing misleading label claims to revising product packaging to ensure consumer safety and compliance," it added.
Livyor removes 'vegan' and 'healthy' claims
FSSAI said Livyor Ventures Pvt Ltd has withdrawn the misleading claims of 'vegan & healthy' from its product, "Livyor Roasted Edamame Beans".
The company told the regulator that the claims "vegan" and "healthy" were inadvertently printed on the product label due to a lack of awareness of the applicable regulatory requirements.
"The FBO has expressed regret for the lapse, apologised for the violation, and assured that such non-compliance will not be repeated in the future," the regulator said.
The company has also started revising the product labels and said it is destroying existing packaging material carrying the non-compliant claims.
Trade marks and product labels revised
Honest Innovations For You Pvt Ltd and Heliostone Specialities Pvt Ltd have changed the misleading trademarks following notices from FSSAI.
Rajasthan Agro and General Industries has complied with the notice by removing or deleting all misleading claims and stopping the use of the PPM.
Iota Nanotechnology Pvt Ltd has removed misleading claims from its label and stopped production of non-standardised water.
Panchamurtha Industries Pvt Ltd has also delisted its electrolyte drink from its website.
FSSAI steps up action
The latest actions come as FSSAI continues to act against Food Business Operators over alleged violations of food safety regulations.
Over the past few months, the regulator has taken action against several companies and has also conducted measures targeting energy drink makers and alcoholic beverage manufacturers.
