Amazon Business sales jump 65% nationally, Bengal grows 35%

Bulk orders in West Bengal had surged 80 per cent as business procurement gathered pace

Amazon Business, the B2B arm of e-commerce major Amazon, has recorded 65 per cent year-on-year growth in sales nationally in the year-to-date period, driven by demand from MSMEs and corporate buyers, a senior company official said on Tuesday.

West Bengal recorded 35 per cent sales growth during the same period, while bulk orders in the state jumped 80 per cent, Amazon Business Director Mitranjan Bhaduri said. The company sees further headroom for expansion in Bengal and is working to increase awareness of its business procurement platform among enterprises.

National sales accelerate

“At the national level, our five-year growth rate is about 40 per cent on sales. But if you look at just this year, we have seen a 65 per cent year-on-year growth rate for the year-to-date period,” Bhaduri told reporters.

He said West Bengal was registering “strong growth at 35 per cent”, although the company believed there was “large upside potential” in the market. Business consumption rather than purchases by resellers accounts for the bulk of the platform’s activity in the state, with services and manufacturing emerging as the leading sectors.

Bengal network expands

West Bengal has more than 70,000 sellers and 20,000 local shops on the platform. Amazon’s logistics infrastructure supporting the market includes two fulfilment centres, three sortation units, more than 100 delivery stations and around 1,050 hub partners.

The company is also deploying artificial intelligence tools to help regional sellers with cataloguing, inventory optimisation and improving product visibility. Such tools are intended to make it easier for smaller businesses to manage their digital operations and reach customers through the platform.

Smaller cities drive demand

A growing share of Amazon Business customers is coming from outside India’s biggest cities. Bhaduri said 65 per cent of business customers nationally now come from tier 2 and tier 3 cities, while 70 per cent of orders are placed using mobile devices.

“We really want to democratise procurement. It should be available to every business of every shape and size in every corner of India,” he said.

The figures underline the widening adoption of online procurement among smaller businesses, particularly as MSMEs increasingly use digital platforms for routine purchases and bulk requirements.

19 crore products listed

Amazon Business currently lists more than 19 crore products from over 20 lakh sellers. Around three lakh sellers have been added over the past year, according to the company.

Its Buy Now Pay Later facility is used by more than eight lakh business customers, offering eligible enterprises a deferred-payment option for their purchases.

Rs 2,800 crore investment

Amazon is investing Rs 2,800 crore in 2026 to strengthen its delivery infrastructure, up from Rs 2,000 crore in 2025, Bhaduri said. The investment has helped improve delivery capabilities, with the company now able to make one million deliveries within a day and four million within two days.

Amazon Business uses the company’s shared fulfilment network of more than 65 centres across India, including around two in Kolkata. Its delivery network covers all serviceable pin codes, with more than 97 per cent receiving deliveries within two days.

Bhaduri declined to provide a breakup of the planned investment or comment on whether Amazon would add new fulfilment centres.
