Mountaineer Dawa Yangzum Sherpa has etched her name in history as the first Nepalese woman to conquer all 14 eight-thousanders—peaks recognized by the International Mountaineering and Climbing Federation as exceeding eight thousand meters. The 33-year-old climber, originally from the Rolwaling Valley in Dolakha district, successfully reached the summit of Mt. Shishapangma (8,027 meters) in Tibet on Wednesday morning.
With this achievement, Dawa declared that she has officially completed her quest to scale all 14 peaks towering at 8,000 meters or more. She first climbed Mt. Everest (8,848.86 m) in 2012 at the young age of 21 and summited Mt. K2 (8,611 m), the second highest peak, in 2014.
Dawa's impressive list of climbs includes notable eight-thousanders such as Mt. Cho Oyu, Lhotse, Kanchanjunga, Manaslu, Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Nanga Parbat, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum I, Gasherbrum II, and Makalu. This remarkable accomplishment not only showcases her exceptional skills and determination but also inspires countless aspiring climbers in Nepal and beyond.
