One killed, 19 injured after building collapses in Kolkata's Jorabagan; rescue ops underway

Rescue teams launched operations in Jorabagan after a building collapse killed one person and injured 19, while officials assessed the structure and its collapse

At least one person was killed and 19 others injured after a building collapsed in Kolkata’s Jorabagan area on Tuesday, officials said.

Rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Disaster Management Group (DMG) were deployed at the site soon after the structure came down. The teams began searching through the debris and evacuating people who were trapped inside.

Woman trapped as building collapses

A woman was reportedly trying to leave the building after noticing that the structure had started shaking. However, the building collapsed before she could reach safety.

Her husband and two sons managed to get out of the structure in time.

The incident triggered a rescue operation in the area as teams worked to check whether anyone else remained trapped under the debris.

Officials assess collapse

Rescue personnel continued their search operations to ensure that no one was left beneath the rubble.

Officials were also assessing the condition of the building and examining the circumstances surrounding the collapse.
