The leaseholder of a hotel in central kolkata, where nine people were killed in a fire a day ago, was arrested, and two others were detained in connection with the incident, police said on Thursday.
Abu Zafar, the leaseholder of 'Shikha Inn', was detained on Wednesday night and later arrested, a senior officer said.
Nine people, including a four-year-old child, were killed and six injured when the fire swept through a five-storey building housing several hotels on Mirza Ghalib Street, with several Bangladeshis among the dead.
'Shikha Inn' was one of the hotels in the building.
"Zafar was apprehended from his residence in the Jorasanko area. Two more persons have been detained and are being questioned," the officer said.
'Shikha Inn' was located on the third floor of the building and occupied around 1,100 square feet, he said, adding that the hotel had five small rooms.
The Special Investigation Team of the Kolkata Police Detective Department intensified its investigation into alleged fire safety violations and the use of a residential building for running hotels, the officer said.
