CBI files charges against civic volunteer in RG Kar Doctor's murder, cites 11 key evidence points

CBI presents DNA, blood samples, CCTV footage, and other evidence against Sanjay Roy, arrested for the rape and murder of a 31-year-old doctor at RG Kar Medical College

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has named Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer with the Kolkata Police, as the sole accused in the rape and murder of a woman doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The CBI, in its charge sheet, has presented 11 key pieces of evidence, including DNA reports, blood samples, and CCTV footage, to support its case against Roy.

Roy's DNA was found on the victim's body, and blood stains from the deceased were discovered on his jeans and footwear. The CBI also highlighted that short hair found at the crime scene matched Roy's. Additionally, call detail records (CDR) placed Roy's mobile phone at the hospital during the time of the crime, corroborated by CCTV footage showing his presence on the third floor of the emergency building.

Roy was arrested by Kolkata Police on August 10, two days after the 31-year-old woman doctor's body was discovered in the seminar room of the hospital. The charge sheet, submitted to a local court, further mentioned that Roy sustained blunt force injuries consistent with a struggle during the crime.

The Calcutta High Court transferred the investigation to the CBI on August 13, following public outcry.
