Azam Khan, son's appeals rejected in dual PAN card case; conviction upheld

A special MP/MLA court in Uttar Pradesh's Rampur on Monday rejected the appeals filed by jailed senior Samajwadi Party leader Mohammad Azam Khan and his son Abdullah against their conviction in a case related to possession of two PAN cards, officials said on Monday. The two have been lodged in Rampur district jail since November 17, 2025, after a magistrate trial court sentenced them to seven years' imprisonment in the case. Following the conviction, both had moved appeals before the MP/MLA special sessions court, claiming innocence. Delivering its order, the court of Special Judge (MP/MLA) Vijay Kumar on Monday dismissed the appeals and upheld the conviction of both Azam Khan and his son. Assistant District Government Counsel (MP/MLA) Seema Singh Rana told reporters that the court has upheld the findings of the lower court. "The appeals filed by Mohammad Azam Khan and Abdullah Azam Khan against their conviction in the dual PAN card case have been rejected, and the conviction has been upheld," she said. Rana said that separate pleas filed by the state government and another party seeking enhancement of the sentence are pending consideration. "The state has filed an appeal seeking enhancement of the sentence, and a revision petition has also been moved by another party in this regard. A date will be fixed for their hearing," she added. Rana said the case pertains to the alleged possession of two PAN cards. The officials said that further proceedings in connection with the plea for the enhancement of the sentence will be taken up on the next date of hearing.
