Bangladeshi smuggler killed in violent clash with BSF at Tripura border; Soldier Injured

A group of 12-15 Bangladesh smugglers attempted to infiltrate Tripura's Salpokar region. BSF forces retaliated, leading to the death of one smuggler after a violent confrontation

A Bangladeshi smuggler was killed on Monday after he and his group tried to infiltrate the border area of Salpokar in Tripura, India, and smuggle contraband, according to official sources. The group, armed with sharp weapons, comprised 12 to 15 smugglers, and the incident occurred around 6 pm at Gokul Nagar in Salpokar. Border Security Force (BSF) personnel on duty spotted the intruders and immediately called for reinforcements.

As the BSF responded, one of the jawans was overpowered and attacked by the group, leading to a violent encounter. The BSF opened one round of warning fire into the air from a distance of about 40 meters, causing some of the intruders to flee back to Bangladesh.

However, some smugglers encircled a BSF soldier and attacked him with a sharp-edged weapon, severely injuring him. As the situation escalated, the jawan, fearing for his life, fired two rounds from his service weapon. The remaining smugglers then retreated to Bangladesh. Upon checking the area after the clash, a Bangladeshi smuggler was found dead. The BSF jawan involved in the scuffle suffered injuries, including cuts on his left arm, bruises on his neck, and internal injuries. He is currently receiving medical treatment.
