A BSF jawan has been arrested in Punjab's Hoshiarpur district for allegedly killing his wife and telling her family that she had fallen from the roof, police said.
The accused, identified as Amarjit Singh of Shekhamatta village, was arrested after the death of his wife Rama. The couple had been married for around 12 years.
Family told she had fallen from roof
According to the complaint filed by Rama's father Ram Chand, the incident took place around 4 am on the intervening night of August 13 and 14.
Ram Chand was informed that Amarjit had called to say that Rama fell from the roof and was taken to Civil Hospital in Hajipur.
However, when Ram Chand reached the hospital with other family members, he found Rama dead. Her body reportedly had injury marks, raising questions over the circumstances of her death.
FIR alleges harassment and assault
A case was registered at Hajipur Police Station based on the complaint filed by Rama's father.
According to the FIR, Amarjit had allegedly harassed and physically assaulted his wife. The complaint further alleged that he beat Rama and killed her.
Hajipur Police Station SHO Inspector Harprem Singh confirmed Amarjit's arrest. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death and the allegations made in the FIR.
Delhi murder case involving delivery executive
The Hoshiarpur case comes amid another recent alleged wife murder in Delhi.
In that case, a 24-year-old delivery executive was arrested for allegedly killing his 20-year-old wife at their rented home. The couple had married in 2023, and the woman was a homemaker.
Police said the accused allegedly confessed to the killing to a friend while seeking help to dispose of the body.
"A police team reached Pal Dairy in Munirka, where the caller identified the accused, who was standing outside his house. The accused was immediately taken into custody," a senior police officer said.
Police later accompanied the accused to his residence, where the woman's body was found lying on a bed.
