Punjab Police successfully foiled three potential target killings with the arrest of five key operatives of the notorious Bambiha-Kaushal gang, authorities confirmed on Sunday. Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, identified the arrested individuals as Jaspreet Singh alias Jassa from Boparai Kalan in Jalandhar, Harshdeep Singh from Garage Mehdood in Hoshiarpur, Shekhar from Muradpur in Tarntaran, Gagandeep Singh alias Ginni Bajwa from New Model House in Jalandhar, and Amit Sahota from Bambian Wal in Jalandhar.
Police recovered a significant cache of nine weapons, including eight pistols and a revolver, along with 15 live cartridges from the accused. According to DGP Yadav, the group has been linked to multiple serious crimes, such as extortion, murder, and arms trafficking across various districts of Punjab. Several criminal cases had already been registered against them. Further investigations aim to expose their wider network and trace connections, both upstream and downstream, to fully dismantle the gang.
Sharing details of the operation, Jalandhar Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma explained that police, acting on reliable intelligence, set up a checkpoint at BSF Chowk. There, they arrested three of the accused—Jaspreet Jassa, Harshdeep, and Shekhar—seizing six weapons from their possession. Later, two more operatives, Gagandeep Ginni and Amit Sahota, were apprehended at a checkpoint near Bhargo Camp, and three additional weapons were recovered.
