A woman was allegedly gang-raped by a group of men in Odisha’s Cuttack district after the vehicle in which she was travelling with a male friend was intercepted on the Cuttack-Chandbali Road, police said. The incident took place on Tuesday night in the Nischintakoili police station area when the woman and her friend were travelling from Bhubaneswar towards Kendrapara.
According to police, a group of around four to six men allegedly stopped the vehicle near Sukarpada village. The assailants allegedly attacked the woman’s friend before sexually assaulting her. Cuttack Rural Superintendent of Police Vinit Agrawal said the group assaulted the man and allegedly gang-raped the woman before fleeing the spot. The woman and her friend subsequently approached the police and reported the incident. A case was registered at Nischintakoili police station following her complaint.
Police have launched an investigation and formed multiple teams to identify and apprehend those involved. Authorities are also examining available evidence to reconstruct the sequence of events and establish the identities of the accused.
Senior police officials said efforts were underway to trace the suspects, with teams conducting searches at different locations. The incident occurred on a stretch of the Cuttack-Chandbali Road while the two were travelling towards Kendrapara. Reports said the group intercepted them near Sukarpada before attacking the man and allegedly sexually assaulting the woman.
Police have not publicly identified any suspects so far, and the allegations remain under investigation. The case has prompted an intensified police operation in the area, with investigators working to identify and arrest all those allegedly involved in the assault.
