The report, published in October 2026 under the title In India, a Food Inspector Sparks Fear in Mumbai Restaurants, looks at how Mundhe’s surprise inspections have drawn attention from restaurants and the wider public, turning the bureaucrat into an unlikely social media figure.

Since taking charge of the Maharashtra FDA in May 2026, Mundhe’s team has carried out more than 12,000 inspections, issued thousands of notices and suspended hundreds of establishment licences over serious hygiene and safety violations, according to the details provided.
