Sharad Pawar hospitalised again hours after discharge from Pune hospital

The 85-year-old NCP (SP) chief had been admitted to Pune's Ruby Hall Clinic on November 2 following complaints of cough and chest pain

Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) chief Sharad Pawar was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on Wednesday, just hours after being discharged from a hospital in Pune, his daughter and Baramati MP Supriya Sule confirmed.

The 85-year-old veteran politician had been discharged from Ruby Hall Clinic in Pune earlier in the day after remaining under medical observation for two days following complaints of cough and pleuritic chest pain.

Sule confirmed his admission to the Mumbai hospital in a social media post. According to reports, Pawar was shifted for further medical examinations, although detailed information about his latest condition was not immediately available.

Pawar was admitted to Ruby Hall Clinic on November 2 after experiencing a persistent cough and pleuritic pain, a form of chest discomfort that typically worsens during breathing, coughing or sneezing.

Doctors conducted medical examinations and kept him under observation as a precautionary measure. His health parameters remained stable during his hospital stay, and the discomfort reportedly subsided.

Earlier on Wednesday, Dr Purvez K Grant, chief cardiologist, chairman and managing trustee of Ruby Hall Clinic, issued a statement confirming that Pawar was fit to be discharged.

The hospital said the NCP (SP) leader was stable and doing well and would travel directly to his residence in Mumbai.

However, hours after leaving the Pune hospital, Pawar was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital for further evaluation.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Pawar over the telephone and enquired about his health, according to the veteran leader's aide Vitthal Maniyar.

Maniyar said Modi advised Pawar to take complete rest and wished him a speedy recovery.

The Prime Minister also reportedly told Pawar that his daughter Supriya Sule and other political leaders were capable of looking after the country's affairs while he focused on his recovery.

Pawar thanked Modi for his concern and assured him that he was taking rest, Maniyar said.

Speaking to reporters after Pawar's discharge from the Pune hospital, Maniyar said the medical reports had been satisfactory and there was no immediate cause for concern.

He said Pawar had developed a cough and phlegm before his admission, prompting doctors to conduct examinations and monitor his condition.

Pawar's latest hospitalisation came shortly after doctors in Pune had declared his condition stable and cleared him to return home.

Sule had earlier informed supporters that her father was undergoing medical tests and that his health parameters were within the normal range.

The NCP (SP) chief had recently visited drought-affected areas of Maharashtra before being admitted to Ruby Hall Clinic.

A former Union minister and Maharashtra chief minister, Pawar remains a prominent figure in state and national politics.

Further details regarding his medical evaluation and the duration of his stay at Breach Candy Hospital were awaited.
