The 12-year-old daughter of NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar’s personal assistant was found dead in Maharashtra’s Baramati on Sunday, prompting police to launch an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. The deceased was the daughter of Ajit Dashavatare, personal assistant to Pawar, who represents the Karjat-Jamkhed constituency in the Maharashtra Assembly. Police said the case was being investigated from all possible angles and the exact cause of death had not yet been established.
The incident came to light in the Sainagar area of Baramati. Local reports said the girl’s body was discovered in the morning, following which police reached the spot and began their investigation.
Police await post-mortem findings
The body was taken into custody by police and sent to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Baramati for a post-mortem examination. Investigators are expected to rely on the autopsy findings and other evidence to determine the cause and circumstances of the death.
Police have so far refrained from drawing conclusions about how the minor died. Officials quoted in initial reports said the matter was being examined from all angles, with further details awaited.
Local media reports, citing preliminary information, said the girl had left her home following a disagreement with her mother and did not return. Her body was subsequently found in the Sainagar area. Police, however, have not officially established a link between the reported disagreement and her death.
Cause of death yet to be established
The discovery triggered concern in Baramati, but investigators have yet to publicly state whether they suspect foul play or another cause. Reports said police were examining the circumstances preceding the girl’s disappearance as well as the location where her body was recovered. Statements from family members and others who may have information about her movements are also expected to form part of the investigation.
The post-mortem report is likely to be crucial in determining the direction of the probe. Authorities have not released details about injuries, if any, or other forensic findings.
Rohit Pawar expected to visit hospital
Pawar was expected to visit the government hospital in Baramati following the incident, according to local reports.
Pawar is an NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) legislator representing Karjat-Jamkhed. His aide Dashavatare’s association with the legislator brought wider attention to the case, though police have so far treated the matter as an investigation into the death of a minor and have not indicated any political connection to the incident.
Further clarity is expected after the post-mortem examination and completion of the preliminary police inquiry. Authorities have urged against speculation while the circumstances surrounding the girl’s death remain under investigation.
