Security agencies launched an investigation in Mumbai on Friday after an email threatening bomb attacks at 3 prominent locations, including Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan’s residence, triggered a security alert. The threat was subsequently found to be a hoax, authorities confirmed.
The email named Bachchan’s bungalow Jalsa, the Bombay High Court and Mahalaxmi Racecourse as potential targets. The Race Course is set to host a concert by singer Diljit Dosanjh later this month, adding to the security concerns surrounding the venue.
Security alert prompts investigation
Police and other security agencies began looking into the threat after the email came to light. The message warned of explosions at all 3 locations, prompting authorities to examine the claims and take necessary security measures.
Bachchan’s Jalsa bungalow is among the prominent addresses in Mumbai, while the Bombay High Court is a key judicial institution. The Mahalaxmi Racecourse, meanwhile, is preparing to host Dosanjh’s concert, which is scheduled for later this month.
Threat later declared a hoax
Authorities later established that the bomb threat was a hoax. The investigation was initiated to verify the email and assess the threat to the locations mentioned in it.
The incident brought 3 high-profile sites in Mumbai under the security scanner, with the racecourse also drawing attention because of the upcoming concert. Police said the threat was confirmed as false.
