The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the licence of M/s Parle Agro after expired stocks of Frooti, Appy and Apple Fizz were found at a godown in Chembur.
FDA officials seized expired products worth Rs 99,970 from the Velocity Express Warehouse near Chembur Naka during an inspection. The action is part of a wider food-safety drive being conducted across Maharashtra.
Expired beverages found at Chembur warehouse
The FDA found expired stocks of Parle Agro products stored at the facility and subsequently suspended the food business licence. The inspection and seizure were carried out as part of the department's ongoing checks on food establishments and storage facilities.
The statewide campaign covers restaurants, hotels, dhabas, bakeries, online food platforms and other food businesses. The drive is being conducted under FDA commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, who took charge of the department in May 2025.
As of August 13, the FDA had inspected 109 hotels, restaurants and dhabas. The inspections resulted in 49 improvement notices and the suspension of four food-business licences.
FDA finds hygiene violations during Mumbai inspections
The department has also been conducting inspections of quick-commerce food delivery outlets in Mumbai. Officials reported several violations, including cockroach and rodent infestations, expired food products, rotten vegetables and food packets stored directly on dirty floors.
Earlier this week, the FDA suspended the licences of 10 food delivery chains, including Blinkit, Zepto and Instamart, after inspecting 86 outlets. Sixty outlets were issued improvement notices, while 14 licences were suspended. One outlet was also ordered to stop business operations immediately.
At an Instamart facility in Bandra, officials found cockroaches in storage areas and pest droppings near food packets. The premises also had dust, cobwebs, food waste, ant infestation, rusted racks and chipped flooring.
Another Instamart facility in Andheri West was found storing curry-cut chicken that had expired on August 12.
FDA action extends beyond food businesses
The Maharashtra FDA has also issued show-cause notices to actors Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn and Tiger Shroff over their appearance in an advertisement for Vimal Elaichi, which the agency has alleged could amount to surrogate promotion of tobacco-related products.
The actors have been given 15 days from receiving the notices to submit their explanations. The FDA said further action could follow if the responses are not received or are found unsatisfactory.
