BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Sunday accused the CPI(M) of corruption and neglect in the use of public funds, citing the poor condition of a government school despite Rs 3.5 crore having been spent on its construction during the previous LDF government.

Chandrasekhar is the MLA of Nemom after defeating CPI(M) leader and former education minister V Sivankutty in the assembly election.
Chandrasekhar raised the allegation after visiting the Government High School at Pappanamcode and claimed that the school still lacked basic facilities such as drinking water, electricity and drainage, besides having a leaking roof and damaged floors.
In a Facebook post, Chandrasekhar alleged that the school building was inaugurated during the election period by former Education Minister V Sivankutty, who was then the Nemom MLA, as a publicity exercise.
"Rs 3.5 crore has been fully spent, but basic infrastructure is zero. This is a direct example of the CPI(M)'s politics of corruption," he alleged.

Chandrasekhar said the condition of the school amounted to a betrayal of children despite the expenditure of public money.
He said he visited the school along with ward councillor Abhilash and an assistant engineer and proposed a two-phase action plan to address the problems.
The first phase would focus on immediate repairs and restoring drinking water, electricity and drainage facilities, while the second would involve preparing a comprehensive master plan to improve the school's sports and extracurricular facilities, he said.

Chandrasekhar said specific deadlines had been fixed for the works and that their progress would be reviewed until completion.
"There will be no compromise on corruption, negligence and the looting of public money," he said.
