Two Army personnel sustained critical injuries in a landmine explosion near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kamalkote area of the Uri sector in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district on Monday, according to official sources. The blast occurred while troops were carrying out operational duties in the forward area. The injured soldiers were immediately evacuated and airlifted to the Army's 92 Base Hospital in Srinagar, where they are undergoing specialised treatment. Officials said both remain under close medical observation. The Army has initiated an inquiry into the incident to determine the exact cause of the explosion. Investigators are examining whether the blast resulted from an accidental detonation or was linked to other activity in the sensitive border zone. Officials said the investigation is ongoing.
The incident comes as security agencies step up vigilance ahead of Independence Day celebrations across Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier in the day, a high-level review meeting was held in Jammu to assess security and administrative preparations for the August 15 events. The meeting was chaired by Jammu Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar and co-chaired by Inspector General of Police Bhim Sen Tuti, with senior officials from multiple departments and district administrations in attendance. The officials reviewed arrangements for security deployment, traffic management, parade logistics, cultural programmes, stage management, illumination, drinking water supply, medical assistance, sanitation and other civic services at M A Stadium in Jammu, as well as other celebration venues across the division.
The Divisional Commissioner directed all departments to complete their assigned responsibilities within the stipulated timelines and maintain close coordination. He emphasised that public safety, smooth conduct of the celebrations and strict adherence to protocol should remain the primary focus.
