A terrorist was killed during a joint operation by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Budgam district on Friday, officials said. The operation was launched in a forested area of Ashdar Gali following specific intelligence inputs.
Security forces launch search operation
The Srinagar-based Chinar Corps said the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF jointly launched the search operation in the area.
Chinar Corps posted on X, "Based on specific intelligence input, a joint search operation was launched by the Indian Army, J&K Police and CRPF in Ashdar Gali, Budgam.
"Vigilant troops observed suspicious activity and upon being challenged, terrorists opened fire, prompting a fierce exchange of gunfire during which one terrorist was neutralised and one AK rifle was recovered. A search operation is in progress."
The exchange of fire resulted in the death of one terrorist, while security forces recovered an AK rifle from the area.
Search continues for another terrorist
The operation had not concluded by Friday, with security forces continuing to search the forested area for another terrorist who is believed to be hiding there, news agency PTI reported.
The forces are carrying out further searches in the area as part of the ongoing operation.
