Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior BJP leaders on Wednesday in anticipation of his likely swearing-in as the head of the new government, following the party's significant victory in the assembly elections.

Saini, who succeeded Manohar Lal Khattar in March and represents the Other Backward Classes, was identified by the BJP as its choice for chief minister should the party win. After his meeting, Saini attributed the party's success to Modi's policies, emphasizing the government's impact on various segments of society.

He also held discussions with Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and BJP President J.P. Nadda. Addressing reporters, Saini noted that while some psephologists favored Congress to win, he always maintained that the electorate would place their trust in the BJP due to its effective policies.

When questioned about Congress's skepticism regarding electronic voting machines (EVMs), Saini dismissed their concerns as "a storm of lies." He stated, "The credit for this significant victory goes to Modi, who has introduced schemes over the past ten years that have benefited the poor, farmers, youth, and women. These initiatives have positively impacted all sections of society. People admire him, which is why the BJP is securing power for a third consecutive term."

In a message on X, Modi congratulated Saini on the BJP's historic win and expressed confidence that Haryana would play a crucial role in the nation's vision of 'viksit Bharat' (developed India).

Defying anti-incumbency trends, the BJP achieved a hat-trick of victories in Haryana, effectively halting Congress's attempts to regain power. The election results, announced on Tuesday, showed the BJP capturing its highest number of seats to date—48, surpassing Congress by 11 seats. Other parties, including the JJP and AAP, faced significant losses, while the INLD managed to secure only two seats.

As the BJP prepares to form its government, two Independent MLAs—Congress rebel Rajesh Joon and BJP rebel Devendra Kadian—have pledged their support to the party. They met with BJP leaders, including Haryana state president Mohan Lal Badoli, to formally announce their backing. Additionally, another Independent MLA and industrialist, Savitri Jindal, met with Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who is responsible for the BJP's campaign in Haryana, and will also support the party.
