Haryana CM Saini invites Swedish firms to invest, join Global Investor Summit 2027

At Stockholm business roundtable, Chief Minister pitches Haryana's industrial infrastructure, skilled workforce and investor-friendly policies

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Thursday invited Swedish companies to expand their investments in the state and participate in the Haryana Global Investor Summit 2027, as he sought to strengthen industrial cooperation between India and Sweden in manufacturing, defence, energy and emerging technologies. Addressing a roundtable meeting with representatives of Swedish companies in Stockholm, Saini highlighted Haryana's industrial infrastructure, skilled workforce and connectivity to major markets, describing the state as an important gateway to northern India. He assured investors that the state government was prepared to facilitate discussions and provide assistance to companies considering entering or expanding their presence in the Indian market.

The Chief Minister said cooperation under the Make in India and Made with Sweden initiatives could create new opportunities for investment, technology transfer and industrial partnerships. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Sweden in May 2026, he said the engagement had strengthened the strategic partnership between the two countries and provided fresh momentum to bilateral economic relations. He noted that the joint five-year action plan had established a roadmap for cooperation, with India and Sweden aiming to double economic exchanges, including trade and investment, over the next five years. Saini said Haryana was well positioned to benefit from this expanding relationship because of its established manufacturing ecosystem, industrial clusters and proximity to the National Capital Region.

Highlighting existing Swedish investments, Saini cited IKEA's Rs 3,500-crore integrated project in Gurugram as an example of international companies' confidence in Haryana's investment environment. He also referred to Swedish defence manufacturer Saab's Carl-Gustaf weapons manufacturing facility at MET City in Jhajjar, which represents an important development in defence manufacturing cooperation between the two countries. The Chief Minister said such investments demonstrated Haryana's ability to attract projects in sectors ranging from consumer goods and retail infrastructure to advanced industrial and defence production.

Saini also highlighted the longstanding presence of Swedish-Swiss engineering group ABB in Faridabad, where its manufacturing operations date back to 1951. The facility has developed into an important production centre for electric motors and related industrial technologies. Referring to cooperation beyond manufacturing, he noted that Swedish educational institution Kunskapsskolan had established its first school in India in Gurugram in 2013. These examples, he said, reflected the breadth of Haryana's economic and institutional engagement with Sweden and provided a foundation for further collaboration.

The Chief Minister said Haryana offered opportunities for Swedish businesses in automobiles, energy, defence manufacturing, home furnishings, real estate and technology-driven industries. He emphasised that the state government had strengthened the Invest Haryana Single Window System to simplify investment procedures, improve coordination between departments and facilitate faster processing of business proposals. According to the state government, these measures are intended to reduce administrative difficulties for investors and make industrial expansion more predictable.

Saini said Haryana's location, road connectivity and access to large consumer markets provided advantages for international manufacturers seeking to establish production facilities and distribution networks in India. The state's automotive and engineering base, particularly around Gurugram, Manesar and Faridabad, also offered opportunities for partnerships involving advanced manufacturing, industrial automation and component production. For Swedish companies, cooperation with Haryana could extend beyond establishing factories to technology development, supply-chain integration and workforce training.

Saini's investment outreach formed part of his four-day official visit to Sweden from October 14 to 17. He was accompanied by a high-level Haryana delegation, including Urban Local Bodies Minister Vipul Goel. The visit included meetings with Swedish government representatives, industry leaders, investors and technology institutions, with an emphasis on attracting foreign direct investment and exploring opportunities in sustainable development.

The Chief Minister also participated in India-Sweden Innovation Day 2026 in Stockholm, where Haryana was the state partner. The event brought together policymakers, business representatives and innovators to examine opportunities for cooperation in advanced manufacturing, electric mobility, energy efficiency and emerging technologies. The programme provided Haryana with an international platform to showcase its industrial strengths and investment opportunities while engaging directly with Swedish businesses.

The visit also included discussions on cooperation in urban development, an area in which Haryana is seeking to draw upon Swedish expertise. Proposals under consideration include sister-city partnerships, improved municipal management, sustainable transport, waste management and water conservation. Such cooperation could become relevant to Haryana's plans for developing new urban centres along the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway and improving infrastructure in rapidly expanding industrial towns.

The Sweden visit followed Saini's investment-related engagements in Singapore earlier this month. On October 5, he participated in a discussion at the SING Forum, where he outlined Haryana's industrial capabilities, policy reforms and opportunities for foreign investors. According to the Chief Minister's Office, the state government had identified approximately 20 to 30 major companies ahead of the Singapore visit and conducted virtual meetings with potential investors. Several companies subsequently expressed interest and submitted investment proposals.

During those engagements, Saini highlighted Haryana's network of more than 270 Global Capability Centres and its established automotive manufacturing ecosystem. He also stressed the need to encourage industrial development beyond Gurugram and the National Capital Region, indicating that future investment efforts would seek a wider geographical distribution of economic activity.

The state government has additionally highlighted initiatives to promote the use of treated and recycled water for industrial purposes, alongside a digital platform providing investors with information about available land parcels. These measures are intended to address infrastructure and resource-related concerns that can influence investment decisions, particularly in manufacturing-intensive sectors.

Inviting Swedish companies to the Haryana Global Investor Summit 2027, Saini said the event would provide an opportunity for international businesses to examine investment prospects and establish partnerships with Indian industry. He urged Swedish investors to explore Haryana's industrial infrastructure and engage with state authorities on projects aligned with their commercial and technological priorities.

The Chief Minister's outreach comes as Haryana seeks to position itself as a destination for higher-value manufacturing, technological innovation and international industrial partnerships. Swedish companies already operating in the state provide an established base for expanding cooperation, particularly in defence, engineering, mobility and sustainable technologies.

However, the commercial impact of the overseas engagements will ultimately depend on the conversion of investor interest into formal commitments and operational projects. While the government has highlighted existing investments and new proposals, no aggregate value of fresh investment commitments arising specifically from Thursday's Stockholm roundtable was announced.

For Haryana, the immediate objective is to sustain engagement with Swedish businesses ahead of the 2027 summit and translate discussions into projects capable of generating employment, strengthening local supply chains and supporting industrial development across the state.
