The owner of the white car involved in the Gurugram hit-and-run incident has denied driving the vehicle when a woman biker was allegedly chased and hit on the road.
Speaking to news agency ANI, the owner, identified as Manish, said he learnt about the incident only on Monday morning. He claimed that he is employed in the Army and is currently posted in Assam.
“I found out about the accident this morning,” ANI quoted him as saying.
“It is my vehicle. I was at work; a friend had borrowed my car,” he said.
Manish said his friend Kalyan Singh had taken the car two days earlier, telling him that he needed it to go somewhere. After learning about the crash, Manish said he tried contacting Singh, but the calls went unanswered.
“I also sent my father and others to his house,” said Manish, adding that Singh belonged to Haryana's Palwal district.
Woman biker dragged after car hits her
The incident came to light after Sia, the woman biker involved in the crash, shared footage recorded by cameras mounted on her motorcycle and those of her friends.
Sia was riding an Aprilia sports bike with a group of friends when the driver of a white sedan allegedly came close to her and signalled her to stop. She said the incident began on Golf Course Road, where the driver allegedly continued following her.
“He had started chasing on the Golf Course Road. I asked him to drive while maintaining distance. He kept making hand gestures asking me to stop my bike.”
Driver allegedly fled after crash
Sia alleged that the people inside the car were drunk and said she attempted to keep away from the vehicle.
“My friend tried to cover it during the ride so that the car could not approach me to intercept but it rammed me,” she said.
Footage from the bikes shows Sia being dragged several feet after the collision, while her motorcycle skidded away in another direction.
One of her friends reportedly managed to intercept the car at a traffic signal, but the driver allegedly accelerated and fled. Sia has also shared the vehicle's registration details in connection with the incident.
