Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday directed officials to identify suitable open spaces in addition to existing grain markets to facilitate the unloading and temporary storage of farmers' produce during the Kharif procurement season 2026, emphasising the need for adequate infrastructure, security arrangements and protection against rain.
Chairing a review meeting of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, Saini instructed officers to ensure that all arrangements were completed in time so that farmers did not encounter difficulties while bringing their crops to mandis. He said the additional spaces should be equipped with necessary facilities, including proper fencing and arrangements to safeguard agricultural produce.
The chief minister stressed that the government was committed to ensuring farmers' convenience and protecting their hard-earned produce throughout the procurement process. He directed officials to take particular care that rainfall did not damage harvested crops or disrupt their timely lifting from procurement centres.

According to an official statement, Saini instructed the department to identify suitable locations outside existing mandis where farmers could safely unload and keep their produce during the procurement season. These spaces must have appropriate facilities to ensure that crops remain protected until they are lifted by the designated agencies.
He said adequate space for unloading and temporary storage was essential to maintaining orderly procurement operations, particularly when large quantities of agricultural produce arrived at grain markets during peak harvesting periods. The additional facilities would help prevent congestion and allow farmers to complete the sale of their crops without unnecessary delays.
Saini directed officials to ensure that the identified sites were properly fenced and that necessary arrangements were made to protect the produce. He emphasised that the safety of crops should remain a priority while preparing the additional locations for procurement activities.

The chief minister expressed concern over the possibility of rainfall during the procurement season and instructed officers to make arrangements to prevent crops from getting wet. He said officials must ensure that adverse weather conditions did not damage farmers' produce or interrupt its movement from mandis.
Saini also emphasised the importance of timely lifting of procured crops, directing the departments concerned to coordinate their activities so that produce did not remain at procurement centres longer than necessary. Delays in lifting, he indicated, could create storage difficulties and increase the risk of damage, particularly during periods of rainfall.
Officials were asked to pay special attention to the safe storage of crops at the newly identified open spaces and ensure that arrangements remained effective throughout the procurement period. The chief minister said preventive measures must be taken in advance rather than waiting for problems to arise.

Saini appealed to farmers to unload their produce only at designated locations and avoid placing it in unauthorised areas. He said following the prescribed arrangements would help keep agricultural produce safe while ensuring smooth movement and orderly functioning within grain markets.
The chief minister maintained that the government wanted to minimise waiting periods for farmers and ensure that they could sell their crops without facing avoidable inconvenience. He directed officials to maintain coordination at every stage of procurement, from the arrival and unloading of produce to its sale, storage and subsequent lifting.
He also called for regular monitoring of arrangements at procurement centres so that operational difficulties could be identified and addressed promptly. Officials were instructed to remain attentive to farmers' requirements and ensure that necessary facilities were available throughout the season.

Haryana Minister of State for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Rajesh Nagar, department Principal Secretary Amneet P Kumar, Director General and Secretary Anshaj Singh and other senior officials attended the review meeting.
The chief minister directed the officials to work in close coordination to ensure that procurement operations continued smoothly and that farmers did not face unnecessary delays. He said the department should regularly review the availability of unloading spaces, the condition of storage arrangements and the pace of lifting from mandis.
Reiterating that farmers' welfare remained among the state government's highest priorities, Saini said every effort should be made to protect agricultural produce and provide adequate facilities during the Kharif procurement season. He instructed officers to ensure that farmers encountered no difficulty at any stage, from bringing their crops to the market to the completion of procurement and lifting operations.
