A 30-year-old software engineer allegedly strangled his wife to death before dying by suicide at their apartment in Gurugram, Haryana. Before taking the extreme step, he sent an email to senior executives at his company, asking them to inform his father and landlord.
The incident came to light on October 15 after the police received information about a couple found dead inside their flat at an upscale residential complex in the city.
Couple found dead inside apartment
Police received a call at the control room around 10.30 am on October 15, reporting two deaths at Flat 103 in Tower 7 of M3M Marina, located in Sector 68 of Gurugram.
When a police team reached the apartment, they found the woman's body lying on the floor. Her husband was found hanging from a ceiling fan hook.
"The dead couple has been identified as 28-year-old Farhana and 30-year-old Mohammad Aslam. Farhana was from Kerala, while Aslam was a native of Bengaluru. Aslam worked as a software engineer at an IT company in Gurugram Sector 58, while Farhana was a homemaker," said an official.
Techie emailed senior executives before deaths
According to the police, Aslam had emailed senior officials at his workplace shortly before the incident, informing them of his intention to end his life. He also shared the mobile numbers of his father and landlord and asked the company officials to contact them.
After receiving the message, the officials reached out to the landlord, following which the police were alerted. However, the couple had died by the time the police arrived at the apartment.
Suicide note recovered, motive unclear
A forensic team examined the apartment and recovered a suicide note during the investigation.
Preliminary findings suggest that Aslam allegedly strangled Farhana before taking his own life. However, the exact circumstances leading to the deaths remain unclear, and the police are yet to establish the motive behind the incident.
The investigation is underway to determine what led to the deaths of the couple.
