The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said on Saturday that the names of former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and his family had gone missing from the city's voter list, citing notices issued under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The Election Commission, however, clarified that the names have not been removed and that notices were issued because the voters could not be mapped to the electoral roll from the previous SIR. The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on November 4.
Over 31 lakh electors receive notices
According to details shared by the Delhi election office on Saturday, 31,63,930 electors have been issued notices. The draft electoral roll contains 97.5 lakh names after 47.5 lakh voters, nearly one-third of the total, were excluded for reasons including permanent migration, absence, death or enrolment at multiple locations.
The Delhi Chief Electoral Officer, Ashok Kumar, said the notices fall into two broad categories. One covers voters who could not be mapped to the previous roll, while the other concerns voters whose records contain logical discrepancies, such as differences in names or dates of birth.
Teams are conducting camps to hear cases, while electors have been asked to submit their replies and the required documents to the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs). The disposal of notices is scheduled to be completed by October 10.
Kejriwal family among those flagged
Arvind Kejriwal, his wife Sunita Kejriwal, his parents Gobind Ram Kejriwal and Gita Devi, and his son Pulkit are among those who received notices in the New Delhi Assembly constituency. A check of the Delhi election department's website showed their names on the relevant list. All five members of the family had voted in last year's Delhi Assembly elections.
The AAP's official X handle questioned how the names of Kejriwal, who served as Delhi chief minister three times, and his family members could be missing from the voter list.
The election authorities subsequently clarified that the notices do not amount to a final finding of ineligibility. Kejriwal and his family have been flagged because their details were not mapped to the previous SIR roll.
The ERO for the New Delhi Assembly constituency had earlier said that the absence of a name from the draft roll does not by itself establish that a person is ineligible to vote. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) conducted house-to-house visits for distribution of enumeration forms and verification in accordance with the Election Commission's instructions issued on May 14, 2026.
Eligible voters whose names do not appear in the draft roll can submit claims for inclusion using Form 6, along with the required declaration and supporting documents, during the claims and objections period from August 31 to September 30.
Rekha Gupta also receives notice
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was also issued a notice in the Shalimar Bagh constituency. In her case, the notice cited a discrepancy relating to the age difference between her and her parents, with the electoral records showing an age gap of less than 15 years.
The Electoral Registration Officer for Shalimar Bagh said her details had subsequently been verified and that she had been included in the final list. A physical verification was also carried out by the designated BLO before her electoral entry was validated.
The Delhi election office said the online list published on Saturday contains voters whose records could not be linked to the previous revision as well as those whose linking showed logical discrepancies.
The office said 31,63,930 notices had been generated and were being delivered to the concerned electors across Delhi.
The SIR exercise is intended to verify electoral records and provide an opportunity for eligible voters to establish their claims through the prescribed process. The Election Commission also provides online facilities for voters to search electoral rolls, register or modify their details and access other voter services.
The final electoral roll is expected to reflect the outcome of the verification process and disposal of claims and objections.
