Former Delhi Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta, 74, died by suicide at his home in Noida, with police recovering a note that cited health and mental health issues, officials said.
Mehta's body was found on September 6. His last rites were performed on Sunday.
Mehta's long career in Delhi
A 1975-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, Mehta held several important positions in the Delhi government during his career.
He served under former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and was involved in the administration of the national capital in different capacities.
Mehta also served as Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, overseeing civic administration in the city.
Served as Delhi chief secretary
Mehta became Delhi's Chief Secretary in 2007 and remained in the position for more than three years.
During his tenure, he was associated with the implementation of several major transport, power and civic infrastructure projects in the national capital.
His tenure also coincided with preparations for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, which were hosted by Delhi.
Police recover note
Police found a note after Mehta's death in which he reportedly referred to health and mental health concerns.
The circumstances surrounding his death are being examined by the police.
Mehta's career spanned several decades in public administration, including senior roles that placed him at the centre of Delhi's civic and infrastructure planning.
