Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday directed officials to register FIRs against those defacing public property, including people putting up unauthorised posters, as she ordered special cleanliness drives across the national capital ahead of Diwali.
Chairing a high-level meeting to review preparations for the festive season, Gupta instructed government offices, hospitals and schools to undertake extensive cleanliness campaigns and ensure that public spaces remained well-maintained, adequately illuminated and free from encroachments on cleanliness standards.
The chief minister emphasised that maintaining a clean and orderly city was a collective responsibility of government departments and that officials would be held accountable for implementing the directions.
"It is our responsibility to ensure that people experience cleanliness and better facilities everywhere, from their homes and markets to roads, parks and public spaces. All departments must work with commitment and address any shortcomings immediately," Gupta said.

The chief minister directed authorities to initiate legal action against individuals responsible for putting up unauthorised posters and defacing public property under the Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 2007.
She instructed officials to ensure that FIRs were registered in accordance with the applicable legal provisions, making it clear that violations would not be overlooked during the festive period.
Gupta said government agencies must take responsibility for maintaining the appearance of public places and act promptly wherever shortcomings were identified.
She stressed that festivals symbolised joy, enthusiasm and mutual harmony, and that Delhi should reflect this spirit through clean surroundings, properly maintained public infrastructure and orderly civic spaces.

Gupta directed government institutions, including schools, hospitals and administrative offices, to conduct special cleanliness drives before Diwali.
The chief minister said every part of the national capital, from residential neighbourhoods and commercial markets to roads, parks and other public spaces, should be kept clean and properly maintained.
She also instructed departments to address problems immediately rather than merely issuing administrative directions without ensuring their implementation.
"Concerned agencies should address the issue immediately. Issuing instructions alone is not enough; monitoring, implementation and ensuring results are also the responsibility of officials," Gupta said in a statement.

The chief minister further directed officials to identify poorly illuminated locations across Delhi and ensure adequate lighting at these spots.
She said public spaces should remain well-lit and orderly during the festive season, when people visit markets and other public areas for celebrations.
Gupta reiterated that government departments must closely monitor the implementation of cleanliness and lighting measures and ensure visible improvements before Diwali.
The directions form part of the Delhi government's preparations to improve civic amenities and maintain cleanliness across the capital during the festival season.
