Delhi traffic alert: Roads shut, diversions in place for Tazia procession

Delhi Traffic Police has announced restrictions from 12 pm to 7 pm on Friday for the Masoom Ka Tazia procession, with several diversions in Central Delhi

Delhi Traffic Police has announced traffic restrictions in parts of Central Delhi on Friday, August 21, in view of the Masoom Ka Tazia procession. The restrictions will remain in place from 12 pm to 7 pm, with several diversions planned for commuters.

The procession will begin at Jama Masjid and pass through Chawri Bazar Road and Ajmeri Gate Road before reaching Ajmeri Gate Chowk. From there, it will proceed through Pul Pahargunj and Chelmsford Road, enter Outer Connaught Circus and eventually reach Karbala in Jor Bagh.

Large crowds expected along route

Around 60,000 devotees are expected to enter Outer Connaught Circus from Chelmsford Road. The religious gathering at Karbala in Jor Bagh is expected to draw between 80,000 and 90,000 devotees.

In view of the expected movement of people and vehicles, the traffic police has advised commuters to plan their journeys accordingly.

New Delhi Railway Station access

People travelling to New Delhi Railway Station during the restriction period will be allowed to approach the station only from the Ajmeri Gate side.

Traffic movement on Chelmsford Road will not be permitted. Vehicles will instead be diverted through the Outer Circle and Pul Paharganj.

Key traffic diversions in Central Delhi

Vehicles travelling from Brijmohan Chowk towards Jama Masjid Gate No. 1 will be diverted via Netaji Subhash Marg. Traffic from Subhash Cut (Cycle Market) towards PS Jama Masjid will follow the same route.

Vehicles from Kamla Market Roundabout heading towards Ajmeri Gate Chowk will be diverted towards Connaught Place. If congestion builds up, traffic may be regulated or diverted through Guru Nanak Chowk or Mirdard Chowk.

Traffic from DBG Road towards Jhandewalan Roundabout will be diverted through Rani Jhansi Road, Panchkuian Road and New Delhi.

Vehicles from Chitragupt Road towards Paharganj Chowk will be diverted via DBG Road, Jhandewalan Roundabout, Panchkuian Road and New Delhi.

Restrictions near Inderlok and Shastri Nagar

Traffic from Shastri Nagar towards Inderlok Metro Station will be diverted through Raja Nahar Singh Marg and Najafgarh Drain Road. Vehicles will not be allowed towards Zakhira Underpass from Inderlok Metro Station.

Traffic from KD Chowk towards Inderlok Metro Station will be diverted via Swami Narayan Marg, New Rohtak Road and Kamal T-Point.

Vehicles travelling from Pahari Dhiraj Road towards Bara Hindu Rao Road will be diverted via Rani Jhansi Road, Idgah Roundabout, Idgah Road and Sadar Thana Road.
