Delhi SIR: Poll officials begin reverification of voters removed from draft rolls

Delhi officials have begun reverifying 47.56 lakh voters removed from draft electoral rolls, with the CEO saying the exercise aims to prevent eligible voters from being left out

Poll officials have started reverifying more than 47 lakh voters whose names were removed from the draft electoral rolls during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR), Delhi Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Ashok Kumar said on Friday. The exercise aims to ensure that no eligible voter is left out of the final lists.

The move follows complaints that the names of several living voters, including those residing at their registered addresses, were missing from the draft rolls published on August 31.

BLOs directed to reverify deleted names

Kumar said booth-level officers (BLOs) have been instructed to recheck the details of voters whose names did not appear in the draft rolls after the enumeration phase.

"The booth-level officers have been directed to reverify the voters whose names were not in the draft rolls published after the enumeration phase. Our efforts are to ensure that no genuine voter's name is omitted in the final voters lists that will be published on December 4."

BLOs visiting households across Delhi's 70 Assembly constituencies are handling notices issued to voters over discrepancies in their details. During these visits, they are also reverifying the names removed from the draft rolls, Kumar said.

Voters whose names were left out can submit Form 6 to seek inclusion in the final electoral rolls, scheduled to be published on December 4.

Over 25 lakh notice cases resolved

Kumar said around 25 lakh of the 33.12 lakh cases involving notices for unmapped voters or logical discrepancies had been resolved.

The notices were issued over issues such as errors in personal details and the absence of a link to the 2002 SIR electoral rolls. The CEO said the cases of all 33.12 lakh voters who received notices would be resolved by October 30.

He also directed BLOs not to reject applications outright when voters' details contain minor errors.

47.56 lakh names removed during enumeration

Following the enumeration phase, 47.56 lakh voters were removed from the draft rolls as ASDD cases. These covered voters categorised as absent, shifted, dead or duplicate.

The draft rolls published after the exercise contained 97.53 lakh names, compared with 1.45 crore voters before the deletions.

The reverification drive is intended to address concerns over the exclusions before the final electoral rolls are published on December 4.
