In a major welfare initiative, the Delhi Police on Wednesday announced full reimbursement of higher education tuition fees for children of personnel who lose their lives in the line of duty, alongside enhanced scholarships and cash incentives for academic excellence.
The measures, introduced under Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar, form part of amendments to the standing order governing the Delhi Police Education Fund. The revised provisions aim to strengthen educational assistance for police families and ease the financial burden on children pursuing higher studies.
Additional Commissioner of Police Rajeev Ranjan said the amendments would expand the scope of educational benefits and recognise outstanding academic performance among children of police personnel.
Under the revised scheme, children of personnel who died while performing official duties will receive full reimbursement of tuition fees for higher education, replacing the earlier arrangement under which a fixed amount was provided annually.
The benefit will apply from the 2025-26 academic year.

The Delhi Police has also introduced a one-time cash incentive of Rs 5,000 for children of serving personnel who secure more than 90 per cent marks in Class 10 or Class 12 examinations.
The incentive will be available separately for both examination categories and will take effect from the 2025-26 academic session.
Officials said the provision was intended to recognise academic achievement and encourage students from police families to pursue educational excellence.
In another significant revision, the scholarship amount for children undertaking higher education, including academic, diploma and professional courses, has been increased from Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000.
The enhanced assistance is expected to provide additional financial support to eligible students pursuing college education and specialised courses.

The revised provisions also introduce a special incentive for students securing positions among the top 1,000 candidates in national-level competitive examinations such as IIT-JEE and NEET.
Eligible children of police personnel will receive Rs 50,000 each, along with a certificate of appreciation from the Delhi Police Education Fund.
The incentive is intended to reward students who perform exceptionally well in competitive examinations for admission to engineering, medical and other professional courses.
Officials said the measure would supplement existing educational assistance and recognise students achieving high ranks in national examinations.

The Delhi Police has also relaxed scholarship conditions for students who decide to change their professional or trade courses after completing the first year.
Under the amended rules, such students will no longer be required to refund the scholarship received for the first year of their previous course.
They will also be permitted to continue receiving financial assistance from the second year of the new course, subject to the applicable conditions.
However, the facility can be availed of only once by an employee.
The change is expected to provide greater flexibility to students seeking to switch academic or professional streams without losing financial assistance already received.

The amendments have also expanded the contribution base of the Delhi Police Education Fund to include officers and personnel of all ranks with effect from April 1, 2026.
However, eligibility for educational benefits under the fund will remain restricted to children of personnel ranging from Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) to the rank of promotee Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP).
Officials said the broader contribution structure would strengthen the fund's financial base while ensuring continued educational assistance to eligible police families.
The revised measures are part of the department's efforts to improve welfare provisions for its personnel and their dependants, particularly families that have lost an earning member in the line of duty.
By combining tuition fee reimbursement, higher scholarships and merit-based incentives, the Delhi Police aims to provide greater educational security to children of its personnel and support their academic and professional aspirations.
