Police have arrested Sudhanshu, one of the operators of a boys' paying guest (PG) accommodation in Delhi's Satya Niketan, days after a building collapse claimed seven lives.
The five-floor building came down on Sunday afternoon, killing seven people, including five students. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collapse, including repair work reportedly being carried out in the basement.
One PG operator arrested
The property was being run by two business partners, who had taken it on lease in August 2025. Sudhanshu was apprehended on Wednesday morning, while the other operator remains absconding, police said.
The arrest comes as investigators look into the role of those responsible for operating the premises and the work being carried out at the building before the collapse.
Labour contractor also in custody
Police had earlier apprehended labour contractor Sanoj, who was allegedly supervising “repair” work in the basement.
Investigators are examining whether the work being carried out in the basement was linked to the structural failure that brought the five-floor building down.
The tragedy occurred on Sunday afternoon when the structure collapsed, trapping people inside. Seven people, five of them students, died in the incident.
With one of the PG operators now arrested and the second still on the run, police are continuing their investigation into the events leading up to the collapse and the responsibilities of those involved in running the accommodation and carrying out the basement work.
