Delhi-NCR is preparing for another spell of rain on Saturday after heavy showers on Friday left several roads waterlogged and traffic movement disrupted across the region.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for September 5, forecasting thunderstorms with lightning and light to moderate rainfall at different times of the day.
According to the weather department, rain and thunderstorms are likely during the morning, afternoon and evening. The forecast has raised the possibility of another difficult day for commuters still dealing with the impact of Friday’s downpour.
Waterlogging disrupts movement
Heavy rain on Janmashtami caused waterlogging across parts of Delhi and adjoining areas, resulting in traffic snarls and affecting normal movement.
Several roads in Delhi and Gurugram were inundated, with traffic piling up at prominent stretches. Waterlogging around Indira Gandhi International Airport also disrupted movement on Friday, forcing commuters to navigate flooded stretches near the terminals.
Independent forecaster Navdeep Dahiya has forecast another spell of heavy rain across Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon and Faridabad from the afternoon through the late evening on Saturday. Parts of Haryana and West Uttar Pradesh are also expected to receive heavy rainfall.
The forecast indicates that intermittent showers in the first half of the day could be followed by heavier downpours from the afternoon to late evening. This could increase the risk of waterlogging during the second half of the day.
What Delhi weather may look like next week
Delhi is expected to remain generally cloudy on September 5, with moderate rain and temperatures likely to stay between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius. Humidity could range from 70 to 95 per cent.
On September 6, cloudy conditions are expected along with light rain or drizzle. Temperatures may range between 23 and 32 degrees Celsius.
From September 7, the weather is likely to become partly cloudy. Temperatures are expected to remain between 24 and 34 degrees Celsius through September 10, with humidity gradually staying in the range of 50 to 85 per cent.
Partly cloudy skies are forecast for September 8, 9 and 10.
