Commercial LPG prices rise again as 19-kg cylinder crosses Rs 2,800 in Delhi

Delhi commercial LPG cylinder price rises Rs 62.50 to Rs 2,810 from October 1 amid festive demand

Commercial LPG prices have risen again from October 1, with the price of a 19-kg cylinder in Delhi increasing by Rs 62.50 to Rs 2,810. The latest revision comes at the beginning of the festive season, when demand for commercial cooking gas typically rises among restaurants, hotels, caterers and other businesses.

The increase follows a Rs 9.50 hike implemented in September, when the same cylinder was priced at Rs 2,747.50 in Delhi. The latest revision means the Delhi rate has risen by Rs 72 over the past two monthly revisions.

Patna sees sharpest increase among major cities

The increase varies across cities. In Patna, the price of a 19-kg commercial cylinder has gone up by Rs 71.50 to Rs 3,100.50, while Mumbai has seen a Rs 63 increase, taking the price to Rs 2,764.

In Chennai, the cylinder now costs Rs 2,983 after an increase of Rs 66.50. Bengaluru's rate has risen by Rs 67 to Rs 2,898, while Hyderabad has seen a Rs 69 increase, taking the price to Rs 3,065.

Kolkata has recorded a Rs 70 increase, with the new price at Rs 2,954. Lucknow's rate has risen by Rs 62.50 to Rs 2,932.50.

The latest increase ranges from Rs 62.50 to Rs 71.50 across the major cities cited in current price reports.

Restaurants and hotels face higher operating costs

The revision is expected to increase operating expenses for restaurants, hotels, caterers, eateries and other commercial establishments that rely on 19-kg LPG cylinders for cooking.

The timing coincides with the festive season, when demand from the hospitality and food-service sectors typically increases. The higher cost of commercial cooking gas could therefore add to operating expenses for businesses during the period.

Commercial LPG rates are influenced by international LPG benchmark prices and currency movements. The Petroleum Planning & Analysis Cell (PPAC), under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, maintains data relating to petroleum prices and LPG in India.

Domestic LPG prices remain unchanged

The latest revision applies to commercial cylinders, while the price of the 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder used by households remains unchanged.

In Delhi, the domestic cylinder continues to cost Rs 942. The rate is Rs 941.50 in Mumbai and Rs 957.50 in Chennai. In Patna, the domestic cylinder is priced at Rs 1,031.50.

The domestic LPG rate has therefore not been affected by the October 1 commercial price revision, providing no immediate change for household consumers.

Commercial LPG prices have risen after September revision

The latest increase is the second consecutive monthly hike for commercial LPG in Delhi. The 19-kg cylinder was raised by Rs 9.50 from September 1, taking its price to Rs 2,747.50.

From October 1, the additional Rs 62.50 increase has taken the Delhi price to Rs 2,810. Other cities have recorded varying increases based on their applicable local rates.

The latest revision comes as oil marketing companies update LPG prices at the start of the month, with commercial users bearing the increase while domestic 14.2-kg cylinder rates remain unchanged.
