A Delhi Police head constable was allegedly assaulted by a group of men in Mangolpuri while he was returning home after duty, with CCTV footage reportedly capturing the incident.
The policeman, identified as Krishna and posted at Aman Vihar police station, said the attack took place at around 12.15am on September 23 after an argument with some men at a shop near a petrol pump.
Krishna said his wife was unwell and had asked him to bring home a cold drink. While he was buying one, he alleged that some boys misbehaved with him.
He said he scolded the men and chased them away, but was confronted again as he left the shop.
"I scolded them and chased them away. As I left with the cold drink, 7-8 boys came and thrashed me with baseball bat," he said in a video.
The alleged assault was captured on a CCTV camera.
Policeman alleges chain and phone were taken
Krishna also alleged that his gold chain went missing during the assault and said he suspected that the attackers had snatched it.
"Maybe they snatched it," he said.
He further alleged that his mobile phone was taken during the incident. The phone was subsequently recovered by police, he said.
Krishna sustained injuries to his face and mouth during the alleged attack. He said he received five stitches near his eye and suffered swelling around his jaw.
"They also hit on my mouth and there is swelling in the jaw. I am not able to eat or chew anything," he said.
Alleged dispute over jurisdiction at police station
After the incident, Krishna said he went to Vijay Vihar police station to have a first information report registered.
He alleged that officers there refused to register the FIR, telling him that the location where the altercation occurred did not fall within their jurisdiction and instead came under Mangolpuri police station.
"They told me that the area where the fight took place does not come under Vijay Vihar police station. They are saying it comes under Mangolpuri police station," Krishna said.
He also alleged that police officers at the station did not lend him a mobile phone so that he could contact his family.
According to Krishna, a head constable eventually gave him his phone, allowing him to make the call.
There was no immediate reaction from Delhi Police to the allegations.
