The Delhi High Court, Indira Gandhi International Airport and several other locations in the national capital received bomb threats on Friday, a day before the 80th Independence Day celebrations.
The threatening email, titled “Blast Delhi High Court @2:11 PM”, allegedly claimed that bombs would be detonated at multiple locations in Delhi. The email was sent in the name of Khalistan and claimed that the city would be turned into Khalistan.
According to the threat, a blast would take place at the Delhi High Court at 2:11 pm on Saturday, followed by explosions at district courts an hour later.
The email cited cases being heard in Delhi courts as the reason behind the alleged threats. It stated, "Delhi courta vich sirf Sikhaan de khilaf case chalde (Delhi Courts only hear cases against Sikhs),".
Multiple locations named in threat
The email also claimed that members of Khalistan, a separatist movement seeking an independent sovereign state for Sikhs, had reached Delhi.
Six other locations were named in the threats, including Jamnagar House, the Jhandewalan building, the Saket office, the District Magistrate's Office, Indira Gandhi International Airport Terminal 3 and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate Office in Delhi Cantt.
Threats were also issued against the Delhi Metro and trains travelling towards Ambala.
Fire tenders sent to locations
Following the threats, fire tenders were dispatched to the locations named in the email as a precautionary measure.
Authorities have been carrying out checks at the affected locations. Nothing suspicious had been found during the investigation so far, according to the information available.
The threats came a day before Independence Day, when security arrangements are already heightened across the national capital ahead of the August 15 celebrations.
