A video circulating on social media, purportedly from Bihar’s Jamui, has sparked concern after it appeared to show a young couple being confronted and harassed by a group of people at night.
The footage has drawn calls for police action, with several social media users urging authorities to identify those seen in the videos and investigate the incident. Bihar Police has also taken note of the video and responded on X.
However, the location, timing and authenticity of the footage have not been independently verified, and the circumstances leading up to the confrontation remain unclear.
What the videos appear to show
In one clip, a group of people can be seen surrounding the couple at an unidentified location at night. The woman appears to be confronted by several men, while the man accompanying her is separated from her during the altercation.
At one point, a person with his face covered appears to move towards the woman and lift her up while grabbing her from below. She can be heard screaming and appears to resist. The man tries to intervene as the confrontation escalates.
The couple eventually appear to move away from the group.
A second video appears to show the same couple on a scooter at another location, where the group again confronts them. An argument follows, with the couple later appearing to plead with the men before leaving.
The sequence in which the videos were recorded and whether they are connected remains unclear.
Bihar Police responds
The circulation of the footage prompted several social media users to tag Bihar Police and Jamui Police, seeking action against those allegedly involved. Some described the incident as harassment and alleged moral policing.
Responding to the footage on X, Bihar Police tagged Jamui Police and wrote, “@JamuiPolice Please forward for information and necessary action.”
The response shows that the video has been brought to the attention of the state police authorities. It does not, however, confirm that the incident took place in Jamui.
What is known about the case
There is currently no publicly confirmed information on whether an FIR has been registered, who the people seen in the videos are or whether any action has been taken.
An investigation by local authorities would be required to establish when and where the footage was recorded, identify those involved and determine what led to the confrontation.
