At least eight Buddhist monks were injured when a bus traveling to Gaya veered off the road and fell into a pond in Jehanabad district, Bihar, on Wednesday, according to police reports. The accident occurred in the Karauna area after the bus driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to plunge into the water body. Most of the injured monks, who were en route from Nepal, are nationals of Vietnam, Myanmar, and the United States.
Jehanabad Superintendent of Police Arvind Pratap Singh stated that three of the injured monks have been transferred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for more comprehensive medical care. The remaining injured monks received first aid at a local health facility and were subsequently discharged. The SP confirmed that eight monks were on the bus at the time of the incident and that an investigation into the accident has been initiated.
