Chelsea had earlier set an August 14 deadline for City to make a bid for Fernandez, but no offer arrived within that timeframe. The London club subsequently expected the midfielder to remain at Stamford Bridge.

Fernandez’s absence from Chelsea’s Carabao Cup victory over Luton Town on Thursday further intensified speculation surrounding his future. He had featured in Chelsea’s opening Premier League match of the season against Fulham.
Chelsea want £120 million
Chelsea signed Fernandez from Benfica for approximately £107 million in January 2023 following his starring role in Argentina’s 2022 FIFA World Cup triumph.
The midfielder signed a long-term contract at Stamford Bridge and remains one of Chelsea’s most valuable assets. The club is consequently under little financial pressure to accept an offer below its valuation.
Reports indicate that Chelsea would want around £120 million for Fernandez. Such a fee would allow the club to recover more than its original investment while providing significant funds to strengthen elsewhere.
City, however, would have to decide whether they are prepared to meet Chelsea’s asking price after already spending heavily during the summer transfer window.
Midfield overhaul at City
