India’s archery campaign continued to deliver on Day 12 of the Asian Games 2026, with the women’s compound team securing a gold medal after beating China 238-234 in the final. The victory also saw India equal the world record score.
The Indian mixed compound team then added another major result, edging Thailand 156-155 in the semifinal to enter the gold-medal match.
India continue archery gold rush
The women’s compound trio produced a composed performance against China to retain the Asian Games title. India’s victory also kept the country’s strong run in archery going, with three Indian compound teams featuring in the semifinals during the day.
The mixed team encounter against Thailand went down to the wire. India held a 77-75 advantage during the semifinal before eventually sealing a narrow one-point victory, 156-155, to secure a place in the final.
Sunil Kumar gets bronze opportunity
On the wrestling mat, Sunil Kumar advanced to the men’s Greco-Roman 87kg semifinals after defeating Muhammad Sultonzoda 9-0. His semifinal, however, ended with an 11-0 loss to Japan’s Yoshida Taizo.
Sunil will now enter the repechage, where he will have another chance to compete for a bronze medal.
Nisha, meanwhile, was eliminated from the women’s 68kg category.
Asmita Dey moves into repechage
Judo also saw contrasting results for India. Commonwealth Games champion Asmita Dey opened her campaign with a victory over Vietnam’s Ha Ngoc Chi, winning by Ippon with 38 seconds remaining.
After a cautious opening in which both judokas received a shido, Asmita found an opening and pinned her opponent to book her place in the quarterfinals.
Her quarterfinal proved far more difficult, with Kazakhstan’s Abiba Abu Zhakynova defeating her by Ippon in the women’s 48kg category. Asmita will now get another opportunity through the repechage against Hong Kong’s Wong Ka Lee.
More medals in sight
India’s medal hunt continues across several disciplines on Day 12. Boxing has already guaranteed medals for Priya Ghanghas, Lovlina Borgohain and Kapil Pokhariya, who will compete in their respective semifinal bouts.
The Indian women’s hockey team will face South Korea in the semifinal, while golf and wrestling begin their campaigns. Indian athletes will also remain in contention in shooting, squash, track cycling and canoe slalom as the country looks to add to its medal tally.
