Rescue personnel searching for people trapped after a deadly landslide in Mumbai are using a specialised device known as a “victim location camera”, which allows teams to look into narrow gaps and cavities beneath debris that rescuers cannot physically access. The landslide struck Gaushiya Chawl in the Chirag Nagar area of Ghatkopar early Wednesday after heavy rain. At least six people were reported dead and four injured, while search operations continued for people feared trapped beneath the debris. The incident occurred around 3.48 am when a portion of a hillside collapsed onto houses below. Fire brigade personnel, police and disaster response teams were deployed for the rescue operation.
