'Rs 3,000, 200 trips...': Nitin Gadkari shares new FASTag annual pass details

Under the new scheme owners of non-commercial private vehicles (cars, jeeps, and vans) can pay a one-time fee of ₹3,000 that covers either 12 months of travel or up to 200 individual trips

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has unveiled a FASTag-powered “Annual Pass” designed to make journeys on national highways smoother and more economical. Under the new scheme—set to roll out on 15 August 2025—owners of non-commercial private vehicles (cars, jeeps, and vans) can pay a one-time fee of ₹3,000 that covers either 12 months of travel or up to 200 individual trips, whichever limit is reached first. The pass specifically aims to relieve motorists who regularly use highways near their homes, especially those residing within a 60-kilometre radius of a toll plaza. Drivers will be able to purchase and manage the Annual Pass through the Rajmarg Yatra mobile app as well as the official websites of the National Highways Authority of India and MoRTH. A dedicated activation and renewal link will be published before the launch date to streamline the process. By allowing motorists to settle toll charges in a single upfront payment, the government expects to cut queue times, minimise disputes at toll booths, and improve overall traffic flow. The initiative forms part of a broader push to digitise road-user services and modernise India’s highway infrastructure for greater convenience and efficiency.
