The death of Deepak Lodhi, a disciple associated with spiritual leader Premanand Maharaj and also known as Rasik Dulari Sharan, is being investigated from multiple angles after police found an unusual injury and a blood-stained grinder in his room at an ashram in Vrindavan.
Deepak, a 25-year-old resident of Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh, died after allegedly falling from the fourth floor of Guru Kripa Kunj Ashram on Barah Ghat Marg in Vrindavan on Friday morning. Police said the incident took place at around 10.30am and that he was taken to Sarvodaya Hospital, where he died.
Police have so far treated suicide as one possible explanation, but investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the death and have not ruled out other possibilities. CCTV footage, forensic evidence, the postmortem report and mobile phone data are being examined to establish what happened before the fatal fall.
Postmortem points to excessive blood loss
According to CO Sandeep Kumar, who is overseeing the investigation, police have received Deepak's postmortem report. It indicates that excessive blood loss was the cause of death.
Kumar said Deepak had suffered several injuries in the fall, which could have resulted in substantial bleeding. He added that medical experts would be able to establish the precise cause and extent of the blood loss.
Investigators also found that Deepak had sustained a serious injury to his private parts. Police are examining whether the injury occurred before the fall and what role it may have played in the death.
A blood-stained tile-cutting grinder was reportedly recovered from Deepak's room during the police search. Investigators suspect that the machine may have been used to cause the injury before he fell from the building. The circumstances surrounding the injury, including why it occurred and when, remain under investigation.
Police have also collected forensic evidence from the room and taken possession of the CCTV recording system from the ashram. The evidence is expected to help investigators establish the sequence of events.
CCTV captures movements before fatal fall
CCTV footage obtained by police reportedly shows Deepak going towards the terrace of the four-storey building before the incident.
According to reports based on the footage, he is seen on the terrace and later appears to sit near the boundary wall before falling to the road below. People can be seen moving along the road outside the ashram around the time of the incident. Police are examining the footage to determine whether it supports the suspected sequence of events.
Deepak had been living at Guru Kripa Kunj Ashram when the incident occurred. Reports said he had been associated with Premanand Maharaj's spiritual organisation for about two years and received initiation in September 2025, after which he was known as Rasik Dulari Sharan. He was reportedly involved in electrical work at the ashram and had been staying at Guru Kripa Kunj since June this year.
Police have questioned people at the ashram and are examining the CCTV footage, postmortem findings and other material evidence to determine whether the death was a suicide or whether there were other circumstances involved.
Family raises questions over contact with Deepak
Deepak's family travelled from Jabalpur to Vrindavan after receiving information about the incident. His brother-in-law, Sonu Patel, reportedly said the family had been told that Deepak had fallen and was undergoing treatment.
Family members have also raised questions about their contact with him after he became associated with the ashram. According to reports, they alleged that Deepak had lost contact with them after receiving initiation and that they had been unable to meet him. The family has questioned aspects of the circumstances surrounding his death. These are allegations by the family and have not been established by investigators.
Police said Deepak's family was informed after the incident and that evidence was collected from the scene. His postmortem was conducted by a panel of doctors and was reportedly videographed. Investigators are now awaiting further forensic findings and examining the evidence alongside the CCTV footage and postmortem report.
The investigation remains underway, and police have not announced a final conclusion about the circumstances of Deepak Lodhi's death.
