Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate SEMICON India 2026 on Thursday, opening a three-day conference and exhibition that will bring together major global and Indian players from across the semiconductor and electronics ecosystem. Being held under the theme “Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem”, the event will focus on strengthening collaboration, attracting investment, promoting innovation and developing skilled talent as India seeks to deepen its presence across the global semiconductor value chain. More than 600 companies are participating in the event, which is expected to attract around 50,000 visitors from 52 countries, besides more than 400 executives and over 150 speakers.
Full value chain
SEMICON India 2026 will showcase the semiconductor journey from materials and manufacturing equipment to chip design, fabrication, advanced packaging, electronics and finished systems. A new “Sand to Silicon to Systems” Value Chain Experience will demonstrate how different segments of the industry connect to create the broader semiconductor ecosystem. The approach reflects India’s efforts to build capabilities beyond individual fabrication projects and develop an integrated domestic industry spanning design, manufacturing, packaging and electronics production.
Global participation
The conference will bring together companies, policymakers, investors, researchers, start-ups, academic institutions and students. Parallel sessions will examine developments in the display industry, while six country roundtables will focus on facilitating international collaboration and potential joint ventures. A separate forum will highlight women’s leadership in the semiconductor and electronics industries. The event will also provide a platform for companies and governments to explore partnerships as India attempts to attract greater global investment into its expanding electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
Six country pavilions
The exhibition will feature dedicated country pavilions representing Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Singapore and Sweden, reflecting the international participation at this year’s event. Twelve Indian states will also have dedicated booths to showcase investment opportunities, infrastructure and policies aimed at attracting semiconductor and electronics projects.
Start-ups in focus
Alongside established semiconductor companies, SEMICON India 2026 will provide dedicated space for emerging businesses and young talent. A start-up pavilion and innovation showcase will highlight new technologies and home-grown solutions, while a student hackathon will encourage participation from the next generation of engineers and researchers. A workforce development pavilion will focus on skills and talent requirements as semiconductor investments generate demand for specialised engineers, technicians and other professionals.
The three-day event comes as India works to build a broader semiconductor manufacturing base and reduce dependence on overseas supply chains, while positioning itself as a significant destination for global chip design, manufacturing, packaging and electronics investments.
