NSA discussed bilateral security cooperation with Vietnam's Public Security Minister Luong Tam Quang and exchanged views on regional developments

National Security Adviser Ajit Doval on Monday held high-level talks with Vietnam's Minister of Public Security, General Luong Tam Quang, during which both sides reviewed ongoing security cooperation and agreed to further strengthen their multifaceted bilateral relationship.

The discussions, held during Doval's official visit to Vietnam, also covered regional and global developments, reflecting the growing importance of security and strategic engagement in relations between New Delhi and Hanoi.

Doval arrived in Vietnam on Sunday for a visit aimed at advancing cooperation under the India-Vietnam Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

"NSA Ajit Doval held delegation-level talks with General Luong Tam Quang, Politburo Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and Minister of Public Security of Vietnam, today," the Indian Embassy in Hanoi said in a post on X.

The Embassy described bilateral security cooperation as a reflection of the deep and mutually trusted civilisational partnership between the two countries.

During the delegation-level talks, Doval and Quang reviewed the existing framework of security cooperation and discussed ways to strengthen engagement across different areas.

"Both sides discussed ongoing cooperation in the security domain and agreed to further enhance the existing multifaceted ties. They also exchanged views on regional and global developments," the Indian Embassy said.

The discussions underscored the importance both countries attach to sustained engagement on security issues amid evolving regional and international challenges.

India and Vietnam have maintained close strategic relations, with security cooperation emerging as an important component of their broader partnership.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for the two sides to exchange assessments of developments affecting the regional security environment.

Earlier in the day, Doval met Vietnam's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence, General Phan Van Giang, and reviewed ongoing bilateral defence cooperation.

Giang is also a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

According to the Indian Embassy, both sides expressed satisfaction with their continuing defence engagement and agreed to strengthen cooperation further.

"Both sides reviewed the status of ongoing bilateral defence cooperation and agreed to continue further strengthening activities in this field," the Embassy said.

The meeting formed part of Doval's engagements with senior Vietnamese officials during the visit, which has placed particular emphasis on security and defence relations.

Doval's visit comes months after India and Vietnam elevated their bilateral relationship to an Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during Vietnamese President To Lam's visit to India in May.

The two countries also set a target of increasing annual bilateral trade to $25 billion by 2030, signalling their intention to expand economic engagement alongside strategic cooperation.

The upgraded partnership provides a broader framework for strengthening ties across defence, security, trade and other areas of mutual interest.

Security cooperation remains a central pillar of the relationship, supported by regular high-level exchanges and engagement between officials of the two countries.

The latest meetings in Hanoi reflect efforts by both governments to maintain momentum in their expanded partnership and deepen coordination on matters of shared strategic concern.
