Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Nitin Nabin on Saturday accused the Rahul Gandhi-led INDIA bloc and the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which he described as associates of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal, of attempting to destabilise the country after electoral defeats.
Calling the two groups “anarchist”, Nabin alleged that their planned protests were part of an attempt to create unrest and challenge constitutional institutions. His remarks came as the CJP and other groups prepared to demonstrate at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
“Today, an attempt is being made to create an extremely dangerous and serious situation in the country,” Nabin said.
He added: “And who is doing this? These are two anarchist groups, one led by Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the ‘INDI alliance,’ and the other led by CJP, an associate of Arvind Kejriwal.”
BJP chief alleges plot after electoral defeats
Nabin claimed that the groups were seeking to create instability because voters had rejected them. According to him, instead of accepting their electoral setbacks and learning from them, the Opposition had chosen to pursue a campaign that could destabilise the country.
“When the people rejected them and democracy punished them, instead of digesting that punishment and learning from it, they hatched a plan to destabilise the country,” he alleged.
The BJP chief also claimed that forces outside India were attempting to undermine the country because of its economic growth and development. He argued that India was continuing to progress despite global crises and suggested that this progress had become a source of resentment among those seeking to create instability.
“The country is fully advancing on the path of development and, despite ongoing global crises, is steadily progressing towards continuous growth today. But this fact is stinging all of you,” he said.
Nabin accuses Opposition of undermining constitutional institutions
The BJP president accused Opposition leaders of invoking the Constitution while challenging democratic institutions and the people's mandate.
“Challenging democracy in the name of the Constitution with the support of lies is an insult to the people’s mandate,” he said.
Nabin further said that the country's youth were observing the language used by Opposition leaders. He claimed they would reject what he described as attacks on constitutional institutions and people holding high constitutional offices.
His remarks came amid a political confrontation over the SIR exercise and the demand for Gyanesh Kumar's resignation. The planned Jantar Mantar demonstration had been organised amid allegations of irregularities in the revision of electoral rolls.
Delhi steps up security ahead of CJP protest
The political exchange unfolded as Delhi Police denied the CJP permission to hold its planned demonstration on Friday, triggering extensive security measures across the capital ahead of Saturday's protest.
Authorities ordered the closure of gates at 45 metro stations, suspended mobile internet services across central Delhi, cancelled trains entering the city and arranged for paramilitary reinforcements to be brought in by a special train.
The restrictions extended the security operation beyond the immediate protest venue as authorities prepared for demonstrations against the Chief Election Commissioner.
BJP promises firm action against forces creating unrest
Nabin said the central government would respond firmly to attempts to create tension and accused the groups of pursuing a destabilising agenda.
“The way attempts are being made today to create a tense situation, the Government of India will deal with it strictly, and at the same time, BJP workers will also stay among the people and thwart your schemes,” he said.
Reiterating the BJP's commitment to the goal of a “developed India”, Nabin said the government would not tolerate activities that it considered threats to national stability.
“We will deal firmly with all such forces active outside or inside the country,” he added.
